Fluting paper (FP)

Fluting paper is a thick and strong paper that is used as the middle layer of carton and is responsible for reinforcing it against any shocks, crushes, and fractures. The corrugated structure of the paper should resist the incoming loads and distribute them. Thus, using premium fluting paper is essential to produce high-quality carton.

Typically, 3 types of paper are used to produce carton: Testliner paper (TPL) for the outer layer, Fluting paper (FP) for the middle layer, and Liner paper (LP) for the inner layer.

Kaveh Paper Industries Co. (KPIC) uses the pulp which is made from recycled paper and carton to produce the fluting paper, though it adds starch to the pulp. The starch causes the paper to become quite dry and strong by losing more water (keeping its moisture at about 7%).

As it was mentioned before, the fluting paper is used in carton to make it stronger and is usually produced in 3-layered and 5-layered types. In the former, a sheet of fluting paper is placed between 2 layers of paper. On the other hand, a layer of recycled paper is placed between 2 layers of fluting paper in the latter, and 2 sheets of paper surround them. Paper with higher quality is usually applied for the external layer so that it can be printable.

KPIC manufactures the Fluting paper from recycled paper in the grammage of 115-130 g/m2 and the width of up to 3m.
